Sampled Dreams
Statement
During my residency at the Vermont Studio Center, I began creating small installations using aida cloth, fabric, embroidery thread, frames, and spray adhesive. I created these slices of fictional houses, by mimicking dated domestic decorating styles.
By combining optimistic messages about home with embroidery, I have alluded to a time when creating and maintaining a home was everything. This idealized home was a façade for a myriad of cracks that could not be discussed openly; problems such as alcoholism, abuse, depression, and poverty.
